VAP FOUNDER DONATES $25,000 TO WOLCOTT SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Chicago, IL, May 4, 2018 – VAP Founder, Brian Hynes, donated 25K towards the Wolcott School Scholarship Fund, a Chicago high school focused on the special needs of students with learning differences. Wolcott School serves over 120 students as it grows to its capacity of 150, all of whom have learning difference, and travel from a 40-mile radius. Wolcott is the only high school in Chicago devoted exclusively to teaching students with learning differences. To date, 100% of Wolcott students have been accepted into multiple colleges and have received over $6,484,080 in merit aid.

“2.4 million school-aged children in the US have been diagnosed with a specific learning disability, and 1 in 5 students has learning attention issues. Our school aims to address the specific needs of this community of students. Knowing our students come from all economic backgrounds, we are committed to making our education available to students regardless of their financial means,” said Dr. Miriam Pike, Founding Head of School.

Brian Hynes joined a team of presenting benefactors at the School’s Scholarship Dinner, to continue the school’s commitment towards making its education available to all students. “Wolcott fills a void in Chicago’s educational landscape as “the” high school for students with learning differences. I am humbled to support this school and their mission,” said Hynes.

VAP FOUNDER DONATES $25,000 TO DACA STUDENTS AT BENITO JUAREZ COMMUNITY ACADEMY.

Chicago, IL, September 15, 2017 – VAP Founder, Brian Hynes, donated $25,000 to assist Dreamers applying for their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. Hynes joined 25 ^th Ward Alderman, Daniel Solis, to jointly contribute $30,000 to the Resurrection Project to cover the legal and application fees for (50) students from a Pilsen neighborhood high school, Benito Juarez Community Academy. DACA provides temporary immigration relief through study and work authorization, for children who entered the country before 2007. It has benefitted more than 800,000 young people across the country and over 42,000 Illinoisans have deferred action.

“When I found out that our students only had one month to apply, I knew funds would become an obstacle,” said Benito Juarez principal, Juan Carlos Ocon. “The Alderman’s announcement ensures that every Benito Juarez student who needs to renew can do so, and will be protected from deportation for two more years.”

Days after the Trump administration announced their rescission of DACA, Alderman Solis and Brian Hynes collectively worked to make this contribution possible. During a political climate filled with much uncertainty for our immigrant community, this contribution will cover the costs for students who otherwise may not be able to afford to renew their status.

“Ending DACA is unthinkable. These applications will give these great young students two more years while Congress gets its act together,” said Alderman Solis. Hynes added “I’m humble and honored to help.”

HYNES FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP PLEDGED $600,000 TO ST. LAURENCE HIGH SCHOOL

Burbank, IL, June 16, 2017 – VAP Founder, Brian Hynes and his mother, Kathy Hynes, pledged $600,000 to create the Hynes Family Scholarship Fund for tuition to students attending St. Laurence High School. St. Laurence is a Catholic college preparatory high school rooted in the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education. This high-retention high school averages a 600-plus student body population, maintaining reputable accolades in their academic, service and athletic programs.

“Our school admits an average of 150 incoming freshmen every year. Many of these students come from low-income households who have a difficult time meeting the $10,000/year tuition. Scholarship funds like the ones through the Hynes Family Scholarship go a long way for these kids. We feel blessed to receive this support,” said School President, Joseph Martinez.

To date, the Hynes Family Scholarship Fund has funded $150,000 of the scholarships. Co-founder, Kathy Hynes, is St. Laurence’s Vice Principal, and has been at the school since 1987. “ These students and the school mean the world to me. It’s a personal honor to be able to help, ” said Kathy Hynes.

VAP FOUNDER HOSTS DWAYNE WADE AND WADE’S WORLD FOUNDATION AT HIS CHICAGO HOME.

Chicago, IL, November 3, 2015 – Yesterday VAP Founder, Brian Hynes, and NBA super-star, Dwayne Wade, hosted a private fundraiser for Wade’s World Foundation (WWF) at Hynes’ Chicago residence. This event raised over $15,000 for the local non-for-profit. WWF provides support to community-based organizations that promote education, health and social skills for children in at-risk situations. WWF is dedicated to its vision of empowering underserved core communities in Chicago, Milwaukee and Miami.

Wade’s emphasis on community involvement continues in WWF’s programs, which promote the education of health, literacy and fatherhood. Funds raised by yesterday’s reception will go towards initiatives like LIVE TO DREAM—a program that supports youth through training to ignite, expand and nurture their raw talents and aspirations.

“It’s always a great thing when good folks are able to come together for a bigger cause.” said Wade. “We’re grateful for the support offered by Brian Hynes and all those who attended this evening’s fundraiser.”

Wade’s World Foundation’s motto is, “ Every child deserves a shot .” WWF’s charitable activities are guided by its dedication to giving back to at-risk communities through a variety of community outreach programs. Chicago, IL, July 29, 2014 – VAP Founder, Brian Hynes, donated $50,000 to Noah’s Arc Foundation, a non-for-profit founded by former Chicago Bulls player, Joakim Noah and certified art therapist, Cecilia Rodhe. This Chicago-based foundation prides itself in providing diverse opportunities for kids to become more aware and conscious to their ability to make a positive impact on themselves and their community.

“We believe every child has a unique passion, one that drives, excites and empowers them,” said Joakim Noah. Through Noah’s Arc, we want to help children tap into these gifts by encouraging them to discover their true selves through the powerful combination of sports and arts.”

Through the expression of art and the discipline of sports, Noah’s Arc works to develop the confidence and foster the passion that exists within every child. The goal of Noah’s Arc programs and workshops is to help children tap into their unique passions and achieve their full potential in all areas of their lives. Vendors get relief from Vendor Payment Program

“I had heard about this (Vendor Payment Program), and I’m very leery because I don’t want to give up a penny. I think, ‘What is this going to cost me?’” Martin said. “I checked into it and met with the people and really it didn’t cost me anything.”

Before trying the Vendor Payment Program, Martin said, she tried to find someone else to buy the invoices, but they wanted “beaucoup interest.”

“It helped me keep the doors open,” Martin said of the state program. “It gave us time to regroup.”

Martin said she hasn’t had to use the program for a while, as funding from other sources has improved and the organization has taken other steps to shore up its budget.

“But the thought that I know they’re there is a relief,” Martin said. “I can sleep at night now a little better.”
